Hospitals often have access to the most up-to-date medication prescribing data, and clinicians need this information to make safe and informed decisions on the front line. Too often though this data is fragmented, dispersed, and most importantly, not machine-readable. This makes it unusable for computerised systems like clinical decision support. Simply put, front line clinicians do not have the medication data they need when they need it most and this compromises patient safety.
At Dosium, we are building solutions to aggregate key knowledge sources to provide a series of consolidated decision support solutions for the modern hospital. Our software will help organisations achieve their clinical goals without needing to be data scientists.
Dosium grew from clinical insight gathered through research in trauma and critical care units, from examining medication administration processes in operating rooms and compounding pharmacies. We observed clinicians engage time and again with a highly error-prone process, and were struck by the notable absence of modern digital tools to support them. This was not a case for incrementalism. We needed to start over. That's why we founded Dosium.
We are focused on creating the world's best user experience for the clinical touchpoints in the electronic medication management system. When we examined software built for ‘modern' electronic prescribing and medication administration, we found very little sophistication or safety nets built into those steps most likely to result in error to patients. These were the steps performed by doctors and nurses in the ward and in the drug room, not during order fulfilment or stock control. Dosium products will put doctors, nurses and pharmacists in direct contact with the most up-to-date and patient-specific medication guidance at all times, delivering detailed decision support through consumer-grade experiences to the clinical front line.
We're clinicians, engineers and researchers who have spent tens of thousands of collective hours experiencing and understanding threats to medication safety first-hand. We've assembled a team that combines practical expertise in modern software architecture and user-experience design with deep clinical and research experience. Embracing our diverse backgrounds, each Dosium team member is uncompromisingly focused on delivering our mission
We manage medication data using the same technologies that the world's most important commercial, government and military institutions use to manage sensitive data. There's a reason these mission-critical institutions do this: they must maintain trust within and outside their organisations. We believe that managing the data that determines how patients receive lifesaving and often potentially dangerous medications in hospitals is just as important. Our approach to data-driven knowledge management makes it possible to trace the lineage of every treatment recommendation, even as they undergo modifications and integrations to become useful all over the world. This is more than auditability. This is what formulary management looks like in the era of precision medicine.
